Although Baphomet has a sinnister reputation it is far from the true representation.
Baphomet or (Goat of Mendes) was first depicted by Epilas Levi but the history goes as far back as the Gnostics and the Knights Templars of the 1400's.
Levi's book, Dogmas and Rituals of High Magic published in 2 volumes 1854 and 1856. Baphomets modern image was first drawn.
